Religion, History, and Foooood!

Outer:
Wooo Dogy!
Today was quite an adventure and well worth it. The morning started out ruff
just because we had to get up around 7 a.m. getting in late, blogging, and not
getting to bed until almost 2 a.m. Not to mention we finally were able to get
comfortable in a bed. ANYWAY… Once we walked out of the hotel doors, Oh My
Gosh, the weather was beautiful and the sun loved us! It was definitely not
like home being that at home it had snowed and it was below zero degrees. Although
it was only about 45 degrees at the highest I will take every bit of it in, but
I’m sure the weather is not all you would like to hear about so I guess I will
let you in on what an amazing, interesting, and fun filled day I had. It wall started
this morning when we met at the St. Louis Cathedral. There is no way to explain
the beauty of the Cathedral with its tall ceilings, vibrates colors in the
portraits, and gold details throughout the sanctuary. So because I don’t have the
words to explain the beauty of the inside and outside of the Cathedral I took
plenty of pictures so you do not have to picture it, but actually visually experience
what I had an opportunity to experience.

Next stop
the Old Ursuline Convent.
Walking from
the St. Louis Cathedral to the Ursuline was such a nice walk and it really was
not far at all. When we arrived at the convent we had to check in and enter
through a gate. The front of the building was closed in and had bushes that
reminded me of a maze. The bushes were all trimmed perfectly and they where
only thigh high. When we walked into the convent the first room we visited was
a room that explained the nun’s and how they arrived in New Orleans and were
able to eventually purchase the building. One item that stuck out to me was
this grandfather clock they had at the entrance. The clock had seriously been
through so much and it continues to tick. It was a gift in I believe the 1700’s
from overseas (Spain I believe), and it had been through not only a fire but
hurricanes as well. Our tour guide said it did suffer minor damages, but they
were fixed and everything else is the original clock that is basically in tip
top shape.

Let’s Eat!
I made a
vowel to myself that while I am in New Orleans I would not fall back on my one
and only comfort food which is a burger, well I can’t say one two which is a
burger and a chicken sandwich. I put my big girl undies on and I have not eaten
anything that I could get back home! I am very proud of myself, but what makes
it even better is that I was able to go on a cuisen tour and try different
foods. I was able to try a real Po-boy sandwich, red beans and rice (Cajun/creol)
style, turtle soup, seafood gumbo, and last but not least praline brittle made
fresh! Boy oh boy, if I knew how fun and successful it could be trying new
things I would have definitely started trying things a looooong time ago!
