Outer Journey:
Standing inside the train terminal patiently waiting for the
conductor to say it is clear and we can board the train was only the beginning.
Let us rewind this moment back about 2 hours Everyone was sitting around at the
train station talking to their peers, playing games, on their phones, and just
really pumped for our trip. You look around the room and you see bright faces
and smile’s amongst almost everyone. The lady who works at Amtrak came over the
intercom and announced that our train would be 40-45 minutes late. The lights
in the room dimmed with disappointment, or maybe it was just me lowering my
eyelids in disapproval. That last for about 10 minutes and everyone was back to
enjoying the company of others around. Entertainment began to come in all shapes
and sizes. There were three statutes of kids skating around the stairway and we
got this brilliant idea to take a picture (or maybe we were just restless).
This took time off thinking about how long we had to wait
for the train. We took pictures, laughed, and oh what do you know the lady came
over the intercom once again! Alrighty now this is getting a bit much. She said
sorry, but the train is running late about an hour and 5 minutes. There goes
that dark cloud over the room again or maybe it was just me closing my eyes
slowly. Anyway, it goes I definitely began to get restless. It started from me
sitting upright in my chair, to kind of slouching to having my head down on the
back of the chair. This cannot seriously be taking this long. We were supposed
to leave at 10:34 and it is now 12 a.m. Looking around the train terminal and
the smiles and conversation that took place before is no longer what you see. You
see people slumped down in their chair and the smiles on everyone’s faces
turned in to looks of frustration. After mid night we finally were able to line
up to board the train. 10-15 minutes and finally the train will arrive!
Standing first in line waiting to board train the breeze came through the
terminal entrance. When you mix cold with exhaustion it is a very interesting mixture.
The time had come for us to load the train. Finally walking
towards the train in the freezing cold carrying all of our things. We made it
we will finally get on the train and get situated for our long train ride. EXCEPT!
A conductor got of the train and told everyone to go back inside. That had to
be the worse just kidding ever. We were all so excited that the time had finally
come as we thought. Watching everyone’s head go down as they turn to walk back
into the building. So close yet so far away.
